Volunteer Info
We cannot run a successful dive program or meets without volunteers.
A credit system will be used to assist parent volunteers and dive reps in tracking volunteer participation. Each family is required to accumulate a minimum of 6 volunteer credits. In order to have credits count towards this requirement, you must register to volunteer via the Meets and Events page on Swimtopia or speak with a dive rep.
The following is a list of volunteers needed to run a successful dive meet. The only positions that require training are judges and referees. **Fairfax Station is hosting an NVSL Dive Judges Clinic at our pool June 14, 9-11am. Serving as a judge is an amazing way to better understand how dives are scored and to support our Flyers. Please consider attending this judges training!
The other positions can be trained on-site.
A separate Sign Up Genius will be sent out for our 3 championship meets (CrackerJack, Divisionals & All-Stars) If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the dive reps at [email protected].
SECRETARY (1) --to list competitors and dives prior to the beginning of the meet and to record the scores, total them, apply the degree of difficulty and determine the points to be awarded for each diver and his or her team. This information will be provided at the meet.
ASSISTANT SECRETARY (1) --there to expedite listing, computation, etc.
TABLE WORKERS (2)-- Compute scores during the meet.
ANNOUNCER (1)--to announce each diver, the dive and the degree of difficulty involved, and to call the scores shown by the judges.
JUDGES (2 at home meets, 3 at away)--five to score each dive. If there is a shortage of officials, the number of judges may be reduced to three. This is not recommended and should be required only in an emergency. YOU MUST ATTEND A TRAINING CLASS TO BE A JUDGE.
REFEREE (1) --to signal the judges and make decisions relative to balks, etc. Referees are highly encouraged, but not required,to serve as judges on the judging panels. YOU MUST HAVE 1 YEAR EXPERIENCE AS A JUDGE AND ATTAIN A TRAINING CLASS TO BE A REFEREE.
SNACK BAR -- Man the snack bar, selling snack items to attendees (Home meets only)
GRILL MASTER- Cook hamburgers and hotdogs on the provided gas grills. (Home meets only)
We also ask that each family donate drinks to the team for the snack bars we have during meets. Drink donations may be dropped off at the pool during the first three weeks of practice. Please give them to a Dive coach or rep to receive credit. Drink donations do not count towards volunteer credits. Donate drinks to the team according to the first letter in your last name as indicated below:
- A-D 12 pack of Diet Coke (cans)
- E-G 12 pack of Coke (cans)
- H-O Gatorade (8 pack of 20 oz bottles)
- P-Z 12 pack of 16oz water bottles
We’re also looking for someone to head Tuesday night dive meets or shadow a current dive rep to learn the ropes. Looking ahead to next year, we’re going to need additional support as dive reps transition out. Please reach out to a dive rep to learn more!
